I want to hold your hand
Brisbane homebirth midwife
Intertwining old birthing knowledge and modern evidence-based science to support physiological birth in the home setting.
Partnering with midwife, Miriam Ackroyd.
‘Birthwork is my hearts-work. Supporting women to become different versions of themselves is such a phenomenon I’m privileged to bear witness to. I get to hold space for women to rock, moan, dance, and roar in their bloody birth rite - birthing both a baby and themselves in the same process. I believe in the normality of the childbearing process. During our journey together we constantly strive towards a physically and emotionally healthy mum, baby, and family unit. Although I believe pregnancy and birth are normal functions of a woman’s body, I am skilled to recognise deviations from the norm and act swiftly if necessary. But it’s done calmly, and the woman always, always has choices and remains the center of the care. The safety and dignity of the woman and her baby are at the core of everything I say and do. I’m here to hold space for women in whatever way she wants to be held’.
Miriam is a homebirth mama herself, birthing two of her three boys safely at home. She has worked for the past 15 years as a midwife and has experience in both the home and hospital settings. She has been a photographer for 20 years and has traveled the world documenting birth, love, marriage, and death.
